Self quarantined, comedian and actor Anyi Malik spent a lot of time online. On Instagram, Malik noticed a lot of the music producers he had mutually followed, were no longer following him (but still reaping the benefits of indiscriminate likes and DM engagements). Frustrated by this, he decided to rip their music without permission (and eliminating their producer tags) and freestyling over them on live stream around noon. Bars at Noon was born.
Among friends, Anyi Malik has been known as a rhymer, but he never felt comfortable with his skills to put himself all the way out there as a rapper. Anyi would use this activity to sharpen his freestyle rap abilities. and just have fun playing with rhyme patterns and rap styles. His longtime friend and fellow comedian Danny Sparks (AKA DmnDaniel), who was also a music producer who frequently would collaborate and share his instrumentals with Anyi took notice. "You know I make beats, too," Sparks reminded him, which prompted Malik to abandon his petulant efforts of figuring out which producer un/followed him and which beats f theirs he'd like to jack, and enjoy a more benign process.
In the midst of all this, the comedian was still performing comedy online and even recorded a standup album from one of his live feed channels. While in post production, Anyi decided to include his newly enhanced freestyle abilities in his next work, "69nyi MaliXXX: Hilarity, Technology and Sex." He went to Sparks' studio and laid a bunch of freestyles, chossing his favorite for the "Bars @ Noon" track that would be included in his first single release "is 69nyi MaliXXX in NASA Drip Bars at Noon," and subsequently, the album.
After releasing his 6th comedy album featuring the "Bars @ Noon" freestyle track, Malik was able to enlist the help of Bay Area Legends Lil B and Iamsu! for a "Bars @ Noon(Remix)".
Anyi Malik's father, artist Gene Howell, not only purchased his first hip hop albums (in concert with his mother), he was Bars @ Noon's most watched viewer. Due t this, Malik commemorates him and his freestyle series by paying homage in an image insired by one Howell's early paintings with help from Ed Greer.
